A1 Caught in the Manila
July 31, 2002, San Francisco, USA.
Here is the final word from Sony Music: a1 is coming back.
It was because of the A1 fans who petitioned it through the
1908MYMUSIC hotline. Cannot say more, MYMUSIC is indeed a
big hit. Now a1 can keep their promise to return to the Philippines
for their fans. The tour went very well, and its smaller scale
made it no less successful than the previous ones. The highlight
of the event was a showcase in the NBC Tent in The Fort, an
intimate event for the band's stalwart supporters in the Philippines.
The fans outside were getting a bit rowdy. And several parents -
as most of the fans in attendance were children between
the ages of 9 and 15 - were beginning to complain. The showcase
was to be held on a first-come, first-served basis, and many
of the devoted fans had been there since 5:00 in the morning.
The boys did their best to make the wait more bearable, and
from time to time they made "guest appearances" in
the VIP area in full view of the queue. Christian came
out of the tent to sun himself for a while, relaxing in the
VIP area. The fans saw him from where they were queued and
screamed his name. He waved to them; later he reappeared with a
videocam and filmed the crowd, waving to them as they waved
back. Later, during the actual show, as they performed their
current single "One Last Song," Ben put his mike to
the audience to encourage them to sing along. At that moment, the
audience's voices carried throughout the NBC Tent with a
resounding "... I'll sing you one last song." Which
made Ben smile that smile everyone falls in love with and
say to everyone, "Beautiful!" And of course the
fans would go the extra mile for moments like that, wouldn't
they? Another MYMUSIC gimmick events that MYMUSIC callers
would never forget... A successful A1 concert!
